In a statement, NASCAR says he will remain on probation until Sept. 13. Clements, driver of the No. 51 Chevrolet in the NNS, was indefinitely suspended on Feb. 27 for violating the sport’s Code of Conduct and later revealed that he had said a racial slur while in the company of a female NASCAR employee and a reporter for MTV News at Daytona International Speedway. Shortly after being suspended by NASCAR, he apologized for his actions on Facebook.
As part of his reinstatement process, Clements was sent to work with noted sports psychologist Dr. Richard Lapchick, who leads the Institute for Diversity and Ethics in Sports at the University of Central Florida.
“In Dr. Lapchick’s judgment, Jeremy has successfully completed the program,” said NASCAR senior vice president of racing operations Steve O’Donnell in the statement.
“We’re pleased that Jeremy has taken these important steps and will return to racing starting this weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway.”
