Williams accept they will have to work with what they’ve got for the next two races while they wait for a major upgrade to appear at round five.

Technical director Mike Coughlan admitted it would take until the Spanish Grand Prix in May for the team to bring the package which they hope will unlock the performance of the FW35.

“After a difficult two races we’ve been back at the factory going through the data to try to understand where we need to improve,” said Coughlan.

“We feel we have a better understanding of where we are and the whole team has been working hard to improve our competitiveness going into the next few races. Ultimately we are looking at a significant upgrade for the Spanish Grand Prix.”

Rookie driver Valtteri Bottas scored the team’s best result so far with 11th in Malaysia and is hoping to go at least one better this weekend:

“I was unlucky not to score my first points in the last race and whilst we aren’t quite where we feel we should be, the team has been working hard to understand the car and bring a package to this race that’s a step forward in performance.”

Reading F1 news about Williams makes me sad.

At one time William’s was a great F1 team but those days are gone. Frank should have sold the team about four years ago but he just can’t “let go”. He’s made some poor decisions in recent years and the team is simply lacking the technical and financial resources it requires to run up front. Using Sam Michaels as a scapegoat didn’t fix William’s issues nor improve their rep at all.
