Penske Racing’s appeal of penalties issued after Texas will be heard on May 1. The three-member panel will hear the organization’s appeal starting at 9 a.m. ET.
Both Penske NASCAR Sprint Cup entries for Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano failed pre-race tech in Texas, then had parts confiscated after the race. Six-race suspensions to their crew chiefs were issued, as were 25 driver and owner points to each team.
Roger Penske told the Associated Press that their parts were approved, but he believed NASCAR thinks they were tinkering with them.
“NASCAR has approved parts and unapproved parts. The parts that we had were approved parts, they are concerned that we modified them. That’s where the discussion is,” he said.
He added, “I certainly don’t think it’s cheating. You are looking at the rules and you are working in a gray area. We all work in the gray areas.”
