Conor Daly emerged unscathed from the first practice accident of the month at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
The IMS rookie, driver of the No. 41 ABC Supply Honda for A.J. Foyt Racing, wiggled exiting Turn 1 and hit the SAFER Barrier with the right side of his car. The car tipped onto its side and slid sideways down short chute between Turns 1 and 2, eventually stopped on the entrance to Turn 2.
Daly was checked, released and cleared to drive by the IndyCar medical staff. But he was despondent with himself after the accident.
“We had just made a change on the springs in the rear. For me, I felt comfortable the whole time. It’s all been reasonably good. I was just trying to experience a little bit more with the car, and there was a car in front and me,” he said. “The wind, it feels like it’s been gusting more, and the rear was leaning hard on the outside tire, and it just kind of folded over on itself. I just lost it. Just not good.”
Daly, from Noblesville, Ind., is one of four rookies in this year’s Indianapolis 500 field. The others are AJ Allmendinger, Carlos Munoz and Tristan Vautier.
