FIA confirm DRS zones for Germany and Hungary

After it was announced earlier this week that there would be two DRS zones at the British Grand Prix, the FIA has continued this trend by confirming the zones for the German and Hungarian Grands Prix.

For the race at the Nurburgring, one DRS zone will run along the back straight of the circuit en route to the final chicane, as was seen at the 2011 German Grand Prix. However, for 2013, there will be another zone along the main straight, with the detection point being on the final corner.

In Hungary, once again, the existing DRS zone along the main straight is retained, but a second zone has been added on the straight between turns two and three. The detection point for the main straight (on the final corner) will also act as the marker for this second zone, which should allow drivers to overtake down the straight and pull away heading towards turn three.

The addition of a second zone in Hungary will be welcomed by many as overtaking at the track is notoriously difficult thanks to its tight and twisty nature. However, the numerous critics of DRS will once again cry foul play, believing that overtaking has become too easy.
