With Williams going into its 600th Grand Prix tomorrow at Silverstone, the team – which has not scored any points in this year’s World Championship – is hoping that Race Day will be a better day after a difficult qualifying run.

The team’s rookie racer, Valterri Bottas, was unable to advance out of Q1 on Saturday, and later said that the Silverstone circuit “showed the weaknesses of our car.”

“There are always things you can do better during a lap but we didn’t have the pace to be in the top ten today, so we need to do everything we can to get closer,” said Bottas, who will start 16th. “We will look at our strategy going into tomorrow and try to maximize our potential for the race.”

According to comments from Williams technical director Mike Coughlan, the FW35 of Bottas and teammate Pastor Maldonado (who did crack Q2 and will start 15th tomorrow) is “competitive” in Silverstone’s high-speed corners, but lacking in the slower sections.

That may mean another day outside of the points, and perhaps a muted celebration of the team’s otherwise impressive milestone of 600 races in Formula One.
