Amidst Sauber’s current financial troubles, Bernie Ecclestone has said that he doesn’t want to think of Formula One without the Swiss team that has become a mainstay of the sport since 1993.
“I don’t want to imagine F1 without Sauber,” Ecclestone told SRF. “Ideally, they will find new sponsors in the long term.”
Sauber recently confirmed that they have failed to pay suppliers, whilst Nico Hulkenberg, now in talks with Lotus, is rumored to have been released from his contract after the team failed to keep to the agreement.
Many businessmen have been linked to buying the team, although Nicolas Todt has ruled out any investment. However, it is thought that Chelsea Football Club owner Roman Abramovich could invest in the team as part of his club’s link with Sauber, but nothing has been concerned.
Regardless, Ecclestone is confident that a resolution will be found.
“They’re a good team and I’m sure there is more than one possible buyer,” Ecclestone said. “Even companies who are willing to support them in the short term would be fine. The team deserves to be helped.”
