After a poor start from the pole position that saw him drop back to third, Marc Marquez worked his way back to the front and went on to win the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix today at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

With 15 laps to go, Marquez got past Jorge Lorenzo to take the lead. He then pulled away to take the checkered flag by three and a half seconds over Repsol Honda teammate and 2012 Indy GP winner Dani Pedrosa, with Yamaha rider Lorenzo falling back to third on the next-to-last circuit around the 2.6-mile IMS road course. Valentino Rossi and Cal Crutchlow rounded out the Top 5.

“I didn’t make a good start, but I knew before the race that the end was the most important part,” Marquez told the MotoGP website after finishing off a weekend that saw him top every session – practice, qualifying, and race day.

“During the first ten laps I just tried to follow Dani and Jorge, and save the tires. Once the fuel had gone down a little, I went on the attack. Then I tried to push a bit more, I opened up a gap and I was able to enjoy sliding the bike. It was so good.”

Marquez not only secured his fourth MotoGP win of the year, but also completed a sweep of the American rounds in 2013 after earlier triumphs at Circuit of the Americas in Texas and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in California.

He now leads the MotoGP title race by 21 points over Pedrosa heading into next weekend’s race in the Czech Republic.
