Michael Annett will step up to NASCAR Sprint Cup in 2014, giving the year’s rookie class another entry.
Annett will drive for Tommy Baldwin Racing in the No. 7 Pilot Flying J Chevrolet SS. The team will use Richard Childress Racing cars and Earnhardt-Childress Racing engines.
“Driving in the Cup Series has been my goal ever since I started racing, and to start this next chapter with Tommy, who is one of the main reasons I made the move to North Carolina in the first place, makes this extra special,” he said in a team release.
Added Baldwin: “”To have Michael on board for next year, and to have a great partner like Pilot Flying J, is big for our team. Since we went Cup racing about five years ago, we’ve grown and gotten better with each passing season. This is the next logical step, and I believe there’s a lot of potential for Michael to come in and do good things in our racecars.”
Annett, 27, has never started a Sprint Cup race. He’s competed in the Nationwide Series since 2008 and full-time since 2009. His best season came a year ago with six top-five finishes and 17 top-10s, and he finished fifth in the series championship. Still, in 162 races, he doesn’t have a single race win.
He was injured at this year’s season opener in Daytona and missed eight races as a result.
