Nov 17, 2013, 7:30 PM EDT

Giedo van der Garde has explained how he struggled throughout today’s United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas after his drinks bottled failed, meaning that he was dehydrated at the end of the race.

Throughout a grand prix, the physical effort that goes into driving an F1 car means that drivers can lose many kilos in fluids through sweat, meaning that it is crucial for them to stay hydrated during a race. However, without water, van der Garde was forced to do the best job he could, and he came home just two seconds behind Marussia’s Jules Bianchi who was the leading backmarker in eighteenth place.
