Magnus Racing has brought in Porsche works driver Wolf Henzler and Jean-Francois Dumoulin to help team regulars John Potter and Andy Lally take their No. 44 Porsche 911 GT America to GTD class victory at the Rolex 24 at Daytona later this month.
With the additions of Henzler and Dumoulin, the Magnus driving stable for Daytona now has a combined nine previous Rolex 24 victories.
“Looking at the [Roar Before the Rolex 24] time sheets, the GTD category is going to be incredibly close so it’s great to have such a fantastic lineup in the car,” Magnus owner Potter said in a statement.
“We’ve never had a lineup in which everyone has come in with previous victories, and it may prove to be crucial. There are so many entries that have a shot at this race, we wanted to make sure we were as stacked as possible.”
Henzler and Dumoulin both have a pair of past Rolex wins on their resume, with Henzler’s most recent one in 2011 coming as a teammate to Lally. After Daytona, Henzler will return to his regular post as a driver for Team Falken Tire in the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship’s GT Le Mans category.
Dumoulin, who won his Rolex titles in 2004 and 2007, competed in last year’s Rolex for Park Place Motorsports, helping the team finish 14th in the GT class. The two-time Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge champion has also kept a part-time schedule in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series in recent seasons.
“It is very impressive what Magnus Racing has achieved in a very short amount of time,” he said in his own thoughts. “Even though I’m new to the team, I’ve known a lot of the guys here for some time, so I already feel at home.
“The GTD class is looking extremely tight, but this team has proven their ability to compete with anyone over the last few years. I look forward to contributing my part.”
Potter and Lally narrowly lost out on winning the final GRAND-AM Rolex Series GT crown last season, defeated by Alessandro Balzan by a slim, 10-point margin.
