Rain forces Duck Commander 500 at Texas to be postponed

Earlier this morning at Texas Motor Speedway, Duck Commander CEO Willie Robertson noted that the raw and rainy conditions leading up to the Duck Commander 500 felt like “duck hunting weather.”

Unfortunately, it didn’t transition to racing weather.

NASCAR’s Air Titan units and TMS’ group of track dryers did their best with the 1.5-mile oval in Fort Worth throughout the afternoon, but rain has caused today’s Sprint Cup Series race to be postponed.

It has now been moved to tomorrow, with a green flag scheduled for shortly after Noon ET. It will be broadcast over-the-air on Fox.

Tony Stewart will be on the pole and joined in the front row by Brad Keselowski.

The race was scheduled to begin shortly after 3 p.m. ET today, but steady rains continued to push the start back. Adding to the issue was the discovery of “weeper” streams of water coming out of the track surface after the Titans and dryers made their passes.

Finally, around 7:10 p.m. ET, NASCAR decided enough was enough and opted to have everyone come back tomorrow.

For those in the Dallas/Fort Worth region attending the race, TMS has confirmed that track gates will open at 9 a.m. local time.

Rain proved problematic earlier this season at both the Daytona 500 and the Food City 500 at Bristol. The wet stuff caused a six-hour-plus delay during NASCAR’s season-opening race, while two separate delays at Bristol caused that race to also finish in prime time.

Now that means I have to take a day off and get drunk again tomorrow.

You don’t “have” to do it. You will do it because, dammit, it’s the right thing to do.
