Dale Jr. tells Twitter critic what he REALLY thinks

Apr 25, 2014, 10:31 PM EDT

Dale Earnhardt Jr. has heard it all over his 15-year NASCAR career – criticism, that is.

For the most part, Earnhardt has been gentile and gentlemanly about it. Like the Bible says, he’s turned the other cheek more times than not.

But when Junior got a not-so-nice tweet from a not-so-Junior fan earlier Friday, he decided to respond — boy did he respond!

And probably shocked the heck out of the tweeter who sent it to him (we’re not going to give his Twitter name, we’ll leave that for Junior’s response).

The critic wrote about Junior, “Overrated…daddies coat tails are only so long.”

To that, Junior sent a reply that included a photo of himself behind the wheel and a classic response:

“This is me not giving a …” Junior wrote, followed by an emoticon that has a strong resemblance to, uh, err, well, you get the idea.

And to think that Junior has only been on Twitter for two months!

Ah, don’t you just love social media?

Social media is an affliction for people who need to get a real life.

Then get a real life because by making that comment you are adding to a type of social media. :)

Why didn’t he flip the bird in the pic? It would’ve been a story. This pic is not so scandalous.

I’ll add it’s petty for celebs/athletes/drivers to respond to negative fans. You’re not going to change any minds and it serves no purpose. Junior critics have a right to be critical and a substantial mound of evidence to support their arguments but junior fans which typically tends to include the media as well also have evidence to say otherwise. Is he as good as the media and his fans would have you believe? No not by a long shot but he’s also not terrible so it’s a mute point to have this argument over and over.

Simple answer is leave him alone, he never ask for all the fanfare, he is who he is by default and has to handle it the best he can, can’ be easy with the name Earnhardt Jr., but I really think he has done a great job, now I guess the Dillon bros. and Chase Elliot will catch hell also

Jr is now and always has been a class act but sometimes enough is just enough!

    • perriwen - Apr 26, 2014 at 6:36 PM

Talking about the same guy who’s been docked points for dropping the S-bomb on TV, right?

  6. adamlucas9999 - Apr 26, 2014 at 4:24 PM

Jr may be a class act but he certainly isn’t anymore a driver than Danica Patrick. they both are just great marketing tools for NASCAR. sponsers love them, racers not so much.

    • perriwen - Apr 26, 2014 at 6:43 PM

It’s beyond a stretch to call him a class act…remember he’s the same guy who’s been previously caught cheating AND dropping s-bombs on live tv in victory lane.

    • mitchellwall - Apr 26, 2014 at 7:30 PM

Do you know ANYTHING about racing ? Obviously not…you don’t win the Daytona 500 twice and not have skills. Marketing is a part a of ANY athlete’s career who’s half way decent, so your 0 for 2.

      • perriwen - Apr 26, 2014 at 8:20 PM

Daytona 500…you mean that race anyone can win as long as they’re capable of holding their foot down and listening to the spotter? Yawn. Try that again when Dale has at least three road course wins in the Sprint Cup, with at least one being Sonoma.

    • mitchellwall - Apr 26, 2014 at 7:31 PM

You must not know anything about racing…

im not even a nascar fan but good for dale just cause hes famous doesnt mean he should have to deal with crap like this i mean from everything ive read and heard about the guy he seems like a good man

  8. babsbasia - Apr 27, 2014 at 7:01 AM

as well he should/ i don’t normally respond to nascar driving tweets/ but most – most vitrol and hatred on most media sites are done by obviously young males

  9. babsbasia - Apr 27, 2014 at 7:04 AM

no i didn’t just say that

  10. cfitzi - Apr 27, 2014 at 3:00 PM

Dale’s finger aside, I think you really need to learn the difference between “gentile” and “genteel” before you try to use this word again. Really Bonkowski, you ought to know better.
