Monaco the magnificent. No Formula 1 grand prix is as famous or notorious as this one. It’s both the racing and social event of the year, and this time around, we are on the cusp of civil war at Mercedes.

Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton locked out the front row once again, but the nature of Rosberg’s pole position has irked Hamilton, who will be willing to do anything to win his fifth straight race today. However, Rosberg is looking to defend his Monaco crown after winning last year, and he too will be keen on recovering the championship lead.

Should disaster strike at Mercedes, Red Bull will be waiting in the wings to pick up the pieces. Daniel Ricciardo qualified in third place ahead of teammate Sebastian Vettel, marking the fifth time this year the Australian has had the upper hand on Saturday. He is keen on scoring his second straight podium finish, but he could be a dark horse to win the race if Mercedes’ worst nightmare becomes reality.

Further down the field, other stories are set to unravel. Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen will be looking to score some solid points for Ferrari from P5 and P6, whilst Toro Rosso remarkably got both of its drivers into the top ten. Daniil Kvyat will start his first ever race at Monaco from ninth place, one spot behind Kevin Magnussen who is looking to score McLaren’s first points since the Malaysian Grand Prix.

Whether you’re a racing fan or just a sports fan, the Monaco Grand Prix is a spectacle that must be watched.
