Hamilton determined to fight back at his favorite circuit

After losing out to teammate Nico Rosberg in Monaco last weekend, Lewis Hamilton is feeling more determined than ever to fight back as Formula 1 heads to North America for the first time in 2014.

The Canadian Grand Prix has been a favorite of Hamilton’s ever since he made his F1 debut back in 2007. He claimed his first race win at the circuit that year, and also won the 2010 and 2012 editions of the grand prix.

In fact, his third place finish at last year’s race was the first time he has seen the checkered flag in Canada and not won the race.

“Montreal is one of my favourite weekends of the year,” Hamilton explained. “It’s where I won my first grand prix back in 2007 and I’ve had another two victories there since, so it holds some special memories for me.

“The city itself is incredible. It’s one I always love to go to and there’s always a great crowd, so I’m hoping for them that the weather is good and we can put on a great show!”

In Mercedes’ grand prix preview, Hamilton reflected on his Monaco defeat, and insisted that it will only spur him on to reclaim the championship lead in Canada.

“Monaco was another great weekend for the team and I’m so proud of all the hard work the guys put in to make it happen. Of course, from a personal perspective it wasn’t what I was aiming for.

“I race to win every time and unfortunately it just wasn’t my weekend, but I drove with all my heart and gave it all I could, so I head to the next race with even more energy and determination.”

After a tenuous weekend in the Mercedes garage in Monaco, both Hamilton and Rosberg will be keen on doing their talking on the track in Canada. However, given that the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve has been something of a Hamilton stronghold, we could see a third change for the championship lead in as many races next weekend.
