The marshals at this weekend’s Canadian Grand Prix will wear black armbands in memory of their colleague, Mark Robinson, who was killed at last year’s race.
Robinson was seriously injured when he was struck by a crane that was recovering Esteban Gutierrez’s stricken Sauber at the first corner. Despite being stabilized at the track, he later succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
Writing in the Canadian Grand Prix race programme, FIA president Jean Todt said: “Racing does come with risks, however, and we are mindful that the aftermath of last year’s event was marred by a tragic accident.
“In order to avoid such incidents the FIA continues to work with stakeholders across motorsport to improve safety – for competitors, officials and spectators.”
A page has also been dedicated to Robinson in this year’s race programme.
