Mercedes trolls Red Bull in the best way possible post-Austria

Jun 24, 2014, 1:00 PM EDT

Hat tip to former Autosport and RACER magazine editor Andy Hallbery for finding this one:

After Mercedes completed a 1-2 finish on Red Bull’s home soil in Austria, at a race Red Bull brought back to the Formula One calendar for the first time in 11 years, Mercedes unleashed this win ad on Monday, mocking Red Bull’s marketing tagline of “Gives you wings.”

It was the perfect marketing comeback after Red Bull ended Mercedes’ chance at a perfect season two weeks earlier in Montreal, when Daniel Ricciardo took his first career victory.

This could rival the legendary and at times mythical BMW vs Audi billboard war.

Mercedes has been having fun with their ads ever since Mika Hakkinen ordered a Red Bull for Schumacher at that restaurant and pinned it on Rosberg.

It’s worth noting that Mercedes F1 and Mercedes Motorsport tweets showing this pic were later deleted, but here’s my take on the situation (shameless plug, sorry):

Merc PR people seemigly forgot how bad they were in the last 4 years, 4 wins that is vs. RBR’s 4 drivers’ and manufacturers’ titles. I’m sorry but when achieved so little compared to your rivals and you contstantly have to borrow this Silver Arrow pitiful PR talk involving poor Stirling Moss and Fangio, trying dress up the fact that Mercedes F1 is a former Honda, Brawn, BAR, Tyrrell, I don’t think you qualify for these “jokes”. If it was Bradley Lord, even worse, I had a lot of respect for the guy.

Actually Mercedes spoiled their perfect season with mechanical woes. Red B.S. Racing just inherited the win even if Ricciardo out drove Vettel again. Ricciardo needs to get out of that toxic environment and with a scrupulous team, IMO.
