Nico Hulkenberg came away from his home grand prix feeling satisfied despite struggling to trouble the front-runners at Hockenheim on Sunday.

The German driver finished the race in seventh place, and extended his record of scoring points in every grand prix so far this season. Only Fernando Alonso can boast a similar record.

However, he struggled to get to grips with the conditions as the baking hot weather from the previous two days was replaced by overcast skies and the threat of rain.

“It was a difficult race and different to what we expected, mainly due to the lower temperatures with the track being twenty degrees cooler than on Friday,” Hulkenberg said.

“We were expecting a lot of rear degradation, but after a couple of laps it became clear the fronts were the limiting tires, and that changed the game. It was a pretty challenging afternoon and, considering how the car felt, I think we got the maximum from the race.”

Hulkenberg has certainly enjoyed a good first half to the 2014 season, and with speculation linking him to a seat with Ferrari in the near future, performances like this will only help to raise his stock.

Force India teammate Sergio Perez finished the race in tenth place, picking up the final point on offer at Hockenheim.
