NASCAR America video: Tony Stewart’s status for Atlanta still up in the air

Aug 27, 2014, 6:11 PM EDT

Jeff Burton joined the NASCAR America crew on Wednesday to discuss Tony Stewart‘s status for the Oral-B USA 500 at Atlanta. Burton says there has been no word yet from Stewart on whether he’ll return to the No. 14 Stewart-Haas Racing Chevrolet after missing the last three races due to the Kevin Ward Jr. tragedy, but it could be a last-minute decision. In the meantime, Burton will remain standing by.

First, no way Stewart intentionally hit Ward Jr. But maybe, like a baseball pitcher who throws on the inside, he miss-judged how close he was to him. No one can argue this – he’s know for his temper. He’s know for his obscenity laden tirades towards other drivers. He’s spun out other drivers on the race track. He’s done the same thing Ward Jr. did that night, get out of his car to show his displeasure towards another driver. If he can do that with his peers, could it be possible he felt “shown up” by a punk kid? Ward Jr. did something really stupid that night, and we’ve all seen it before. Many drivers have done it. But Ward Jr. got too close, and Stewart got too close. Is it criminal? I don’t believe so. But they are both to blame for this tragic accident.

I want Stewart to return to racing. But he should sit out the rest of the season.

You could have left that whole first paragraph out and just wrote the last sentence and been fine!

If the headline was truthful, it would say “nothing new to report, just click on the story so we get the hits”.
